At Slingshot, we’re passionate about technology, creativity, and innovation. So, it’s no surprise that our love for apps and tools extends beyond what we build.

From the most helpful productivity software to the quirky mobile games that keep us entertained, our team has many apps we can’t live without!

We decided to ask around the office and share what makes these tools unique to us—both in and outside of work.

Who are you?

Before we dive into the tech fun, let’s meet the cast-and-crew that will be sharing their favorite apps:

Savannah: My name’s Savannah and I’m Slingshot’s Director of Marketing and New Business

Rachel: I’m Rachel Foster, the Principal UX / UI Designer.

Joe: I’m Joe, one of Slinghost’s Principle Developers

Doug: I’m Doug, a Principal Developer & Team Lead

John: I’m John, Senior Developer at Slingshot

David: Founder and CEO, David here!

The Tools that Power Our Day-to-Day

Regarding productivity and collaboration, we’ve each got a favorite tool or app that keeps the work flowing smoothly.

otter

Savannah: It’d be tough to go a day without Otter! It’s an AI Meeting Assistant that transcribe’s my meetings in real-time, meaning I don’t have to try and quickly scribble notes. The best part is that I can ask questions via a chatbot after a meeting. No more guessing, just checking!

TeuxDeux

Rachel: I have to credit TeuxDeux for keeping my life in order, both professionally & personally. It’s always the first tab on my browser stack. There’s also an accompanying mobile app so I can add, check, & mark off items on-the-go. I love how simple it is, and how uncompleted tasks auto-move to the next day. It allows me to lay my entire week out in a way that’s optimized for productivity. And as a bonus, whenever you complete a task a superhero dog / cat shimmies across the screen – the extra dopamine hit of accomplishment is well worth it.

chatgpt green

Joe: For work, I use ChatGPT more than anything. It’s definitely a time saver for troubleshooting errors, providing configuration options, or generating code. It typically gets me 90% of the way to a solution.

obsidian

Doug: The note taking app Obsidian is my second brain.  I put everything that I might need to know in there so I don’t have to worry about remembering it later.  It also has lots of great plugins to expand it to Kanban boards, drawing diagrams, and more.

slack

John: For me it’s Slack. I keep a lot of notes in there and it’s super helpful for collaborating with someone quickly. The Huddle feature has been great for impromptu meetings and I like that I can bookmark links in specific channels so that I can keep helpful information separated by the project I’m working on.

chatgpt

David: I use ChatGPT for occasional brainstorming, quick research on various topics, light analysis, and sometimes image generation. It’s handy as a junior-level personal assistant.

Mobile Apps We Can’t Get Enough Of

Let’s be honest; we all have that one mobile app we check too often. Some of us are hooked on productivity apps, while others prefer a good puzzle game to clear the mind after a long day.

Dext

Savannah: One mobile app I use for work at least once a week is Dext. It’s a platform for keeping track of receipts and expenses. Instead of manually adding everything into our accounting suite, I simply take a photo of the receipt, and it adds it for me! It’s computer vision at its best.

Oura

Rachel: I love data tracking & improvement, so I check my Oura stats consistently. Being able to see how a meeting, a long walk, a workout, etc. affects my body’s datapoints is fascinating – it feels like I’m gaming my personal biohacking to feel better & more energized. On the days where my stats are lower, I know to provide myself more rest and honor the restoration I need. It’s a win-win.

reddit

Joe: I’m not crazy about the direction social media has gone, but I do browse Reddit pretty often. In my experience, it seems to lean to the slightly more intelligent side of social media than some alternatives.

podcastaddict

Doug: I use PodcastAddict for all my podcast listening needs.  No matter what your interests are, there is a podcast for it.  I listen to podcasts that give me the headlines of the latest news, tech topics, and info on my favorite sports teams.

youtube

John: I am a very visual learner. I use YouTube a lot while working to see step-by-step guides on integrations and software features that I’ve never used before. It’s helpful for me to see someone walk through code step-by-step with live commentary and if I have a question, 90% of the time it’s already been commented and answered by the uploader.

race hero

David: I use RaceHero for following kart and auto-racing events. It gives real-time lap-by-lap race results for events worldwide and a full lap by lap history of every driver across every event.  I love to analyze my own speed as it compares to other drivers and also follow my friends and competitors.

Beyond Work: The Apps We Love Outside of The Office

While work is a big part of who we are, we also have a variety of apps that make our personal lives a little more organized—or just more fun.

alarmy

Savannah: Hands down, my must-have app outside of work is Alarmy. Yes, every phone already has an alarm function. But when you’re a chronic snoozer, I need a little extra help getting out of bed! Alarmy requires you to do extra steps, like solving math problems, before the alarm goes off. And there’s no snooze button.

cronometer

Rachel: I’m in a wellness era, so lately I’ve been appreciating the Cronometer app. It’s nutritional tracking, but on steroids. I love how it breaks down macros & daily vitamins / minerals, which has led me to alter the way I eat and the supplements I take. It has great, clear visualizations for the data, so you can see exactly where you stand, or choose the data visualization style that most resonates with you. It also integrates with my Oura ring (& many other wearable devices) which auto-pulls in movement & bodily data, and adjusts your nutritional levels accordingly.

spotify

Joe: Outside of work, I use Spotify to listen to music, listen to podcasts, and listen to audiobooks. Having access to an endless amount of music for $12/month on any device still blows my mind, considering the amount of money I spent buying CDs growing up.

Hotel Tonight

David: HotelTonight is my go-to app for travel. It simplifies the process of finding and booking hotel deals, which is great for someone who’s constantly on the move.

discord

John: Discord is my go-to. I have friends that live overseas and it makes talking to them easy. I love setting up servers and channels with my friends for specific interests and topics. If I want to talk about a specific topic, I can open my server and head right to that channel for conversation on that subject.

Conclusion

Our passion for tech doesn’t stop when we log off! The apps we love, whether for work or play, give us the freedom to stay organized, be creative, and find balance in our everyday lives.

What about you; did you see your favorite app, or was it snubbed from this list? Let us know what your favorite app is!
